50th Anniversary of Canberra's first bike path with history and explanation of possible (desired) extension.
Join Pedal Power on a ride to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the construction of Canberra’s first bike path – the Sullivans Creek Path from Dickson to Civic.
This 24 km long ride will explore some of Canberra’s oldest and best cycling infrastructure (although some is getting a bit tired), Sullivans Creek and its proposed re-naturalising and its effect on cycling infrastructure, as well as areas of proposed and potential new cycle path developments along Sullivans Creek and adjacent areas. There will be strategic stops and commentary.
Proposed route: Start in the Park and Ride car park, around Kenny, along Morrison Street (that will join the Garden City Cycle Route), along Flemington Road and Northbourne Avenue looking at Sulivans Creek, into Southwell park, onto the existing Sulivans Creek bike path in Lyneham, up the path to Dickson College, then along the existing Sullivans Creek path (observing the Creek and what can be done to improve the path), into Civic and finally around the Civic Cycle Route to a cafe in Lonsdale Street.
