Pedal Power Social Night: From Melbourne to Canberra by Brompton
18:00 – 20:00
6:00 pm (Dinner Optional) for 7.30 pm start
What happens when you swap the Hume Highway for quiet country roads, a folding bike, and a daily mission to find the perfect cream bun?
Join us for our next Pedal Power Social Evening as Mike Textor shares the story of his unique cycling tour from Melbourne to Canberra on a Brompton folding bike.
A long-time cyclist and Brompton enthusiast, Mike will recount his journey from Melbourne's CBD to Canberra via scenic backroads, staying close to the Hume Highway while avoiding it wherever possible.
Along the way, he'll share the joys and challenges of touring on a small-wheeled folding bike, the memorable places and people encountered on the ride, and his self-appointed daily challenge of tracking down at least one cream bun and cappuccino.
Whether you're interested in bike touring, folding bikes, or simply enjoy a good travel story with plenty of humour, this promises to be an entertaining evening for cyclists of all kinds.
Questions and discussion will follow the presentation.
Support Pedal Power while you're there!
If you're a Canberra Southern Cross Club member, nominate Pedal Power ACT in the Community Rewards Program. Every time you purchase food or drinks at the club, a contribution is made to Pedal Power at no extra cost to you, helping us deliver cycling programs across Canberra.

National Ride2Work Day – 15 October! 🌞🚴♂️
Canberra
07:00 – 09:00
National Ride2Work Day has always been one of Canberra’s most popular cycling traditions and Pedal Power is thrilled to bring it back on Wednesday 15 October 2025.
After a six-year pause, it’s time to reignite that cycling spirit and inspire more people to discover the joys and benefits of riding to work. Cycling isn’t just fun — it’s great for your health, your wallet, your mood, and the planet. It boosts fitness, supports mental well-being, lowers stress, and can help you live a longer, healthier life. It also reduces traffic, cuts pollution, and helps create more connected communities.
We’d love to hear from anyone keen to volunteer to lead a ride into Civic whether you commute regularly or are happily retired. If you want to share the love and ease of cycling with those who don’t know where to start, please register your ride and let us know where you’d like to meet others on the morning.
As a part of the Celebrations, we have collaborated with Rideshop Braddon and Mojo Cycle Repairs in a raffle with marvellous prizes to help you ride to work.
Rideshop Braddon will be giving away a $500 voucher for their goods and services.
Mojo Cycle Repairs will be offering free bike checkups on the day, and they will also be raffling off one free bike tune-up.
To be eligible for the raffle, all you need to do is register for the event! If you are chosen to win one of the prizes, we will reach out through email, and we will require you to send a picture of yourself and your bike to receive the prize.
You can get involved in three ways:
Lead a ride - Email membership@pedalpower.org.au to register a meeting point where you’ll meet others and guide them into the city.
Ride as a group - organise colleagues or friends to meet up and ride in together.
Join a ride - click here to find a meeting point near you and ride with a guide to Veterans Park. If your preferred ride isn’t listed yet, check back soon – more rides are being added.
Whichever option you choose, please register so we can track how many people ride, and how many try it for the first time, and celebrate together.
We will finish the morning with a community breakfast in Civic. If you’d like to be involved in making the day a success, please get in touch at membership@pedalpower.org.au.
