Protest Ride - Canberra
Haig Park
16:00 – 17:00
Come and join us once again for a protest ride as we call for separated bike-only paths along Northbourne Avenue and highlight the need for safe, convenient cycling infrastructure all over Canberra. This will be a repeat of our protest ride we held in April.  We will also be marking the 50th anniversary of the first Canberra protest ride on 21st October 1974 by picking up where they left off.  We will ride as a collective group starting in Haig Park and travelling along Northbourne Avenue to London Circuit, then to Mouat/Antill Streets and back to Haig Park. We will be riding in the shoulder and left hand lane obeying the traffic lights and road rules. Map of the route below and on ride GPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/45654711   We need many people to make a decent spectacle and be seen as a protest ride. Please if possible, wear hi-vis or bright colours and have a flashing red tail light. Please register so that we can assess the numbers before the start. Bring your family, friends and anyone who has a bike and is interested in safe cycling infrastructure. Image: The first cyclists protest in Canberra 1974 from Belconnen to Civic. This is the initial protest ride that led to the creation of Pedal Power. To view the full video, visit: https://www.nfsa.gov.au/collection/curated/cyclists-protest-canberra-1974
